In an interview with The Indian Express, Juhi Chawla remembered one incident when Rishi Kapoor screamed at her in front of everyone for continuously checking the director’s monitor during the shoot of Sharmaji Namkeen. She shared that ‘Chintuji’ was effortlessly brilliant in his performance, but she was the one who was struggling to match up to his standards. Juhi further said that she would giggle and go to the director’s monitor to check her takes while Rishi Kapoor would scream at her for behaving like an ‘insecure actor’. Juhi could be quoted as saying:

“On the sets, when scenes were going on, Chintu ji was effortless and sparkling. And I was standing in front of him and struggling with my takes. I knew what was happening inside me. I was like, ‘Chintu ji ke itne acche shots hai. Mere nahi aayenge toh not good. (He gave such good shots. If I would not match up, it won’t look nice).’ I would keep running to the monitor just to see ki maine take theek kiya ki nahi. So, Chintu ji was like – ‘monitor is not meant for actors. Why are you behaving like an insecure actor? Hitesh, why are you allowing her to see the monitor.’ I would crack up, but still went and saw the monitor. I loved all that. Great fun.”

“He would never see the monitor after his shots were done. Even if you ask him, he would say, ‘It is your job. I don’t want to see anything.”

In a candid conversation with The Quint, Juhi Chawla had taken a trip down to memory lane and had recalled her memory of working with Rishi Kapoor for the first time. She had revealed:

“One day I was doing Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. I was totally a newcomer with Aamir, and Rishi Kapoor was the chief guest for our music launch. He was the star. You know, standing next to him, we all had our pictures taken. Then two, three years later, is when we did like a film. That time I was new, I just came into the industry and I was going to work with the Rishi Kapoor. I was standing in front of Chintuji and trying to say my dialogues and shaking in my knees, because I knew I’ll die if I make a mistake, I will look so stupid and was shaking and hoping that the shot be over because he never makes a mistake and I was so scared at that moment. That feeling only a newcomer knows when you’re standing in front of somebody you’ve seen on the big screen, and you never imagined that you will be standing in front of them giving a shot.”
