Sushmita Sen Recalls Fight With Airport Authorities For Kids' Passports: 'They Said Pita Ka Naam'

Sushmita Sen recalled her fight with airport authorities for her daughters' passports. She shared they kept asking for their father's name while she stated to put their mother's name on it.

Sushmita Sen Recalls Fight With Airport Authorities For Kids' Passports: 'They Said Pita Ka Naam'

Sushmita Sen, the most gorgeous Bollywood actress, made India proud by bagging the Miss Universe Crown in 1994. While the list of her professional accolades is super long, she touched millions of hearts when she chose to embrace motherhood at the age of 24 by adopting her first daughter. She challenged the law of India and the notion of being a single mother. However, life hasn't been easy for Sushmita, as there were many hurdles on her way, but she conquered them all. 

Sushmita Sen recalled her fight with airport authorities in court

Recently, we stumbled upon an interview with Sushmita Sen, wherein she recalled her struggle to get her daughters' passports as they wanted their father's name. In the clip that made rounds on the internet, Sushmita revealed that in India, no legal document is made without a father's name, especially a passport. She shared she faced a lot of difficulty with her daughters' passports as they would ask for their father's name. Sushmita recalled:

"I still had a problem at the airport office. I went there and they said, 'Nai, pita ka naam?' Arey bhaiya, likha hai, mai maa hoon. Aap waha par dash likh diijiye na. (They said) 'Nai, nai, yeh nai hoga.'"

Sushmita further shared that she went back to the court, and they sent another letter, which is her favourite, to date. The actress revealed that they warned the authorities that they would be held in 'contempt of court' if they didn't put the mother's name. She called the moment pure happiness.

When Sushmita Sen's father gave a bold reply to the judge in court when she was fighting the adoption case in 2000

It was in the early 2000s when Sushmita Sen took the bold decision to adopt her first daughter at the mere age of 24. She was single, young and fertile, which was the major blockage in her case. Also, it was the first time such a case was presented in the court, wherein a fertile young woman pleaded for adoption. Once in interaction with Twinkle Khanna, Sushmita revealed how her father reacted to a shocking question asked by the judge in the courtroom.

While talking to Twinkle, Sushmita recalled that the judge asked her father, Shubeer Sen, whether he was worried about her marriage after adoption, and if he was okay with his daughter's decision. Sushmita's father replied that no father would be happy with it, but he had not raised his daughter to be someone's wife. Quoting him, Sushmita had said:

"She has chosen this motherhood and one thing I know my daughter to do is follow through."
