Shah Rukh Khan shares how his open-arms pose came into existence

Recently, Shah Rukh Khan was awarded the prestigious Pardo Alla Carriera Award at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. During the interaction, he talked about his career at length and revealed the story behind his iconic open-arm pose, which emerged in the 1990s and has become his signature. SRK revealed that the pose came into being because he could not perform a dance step correctly.

Shah Rukh recalled that he was taught the dance step by the late Saroj Khan, but he just could not perfect it. Then, he decided to practice the whole night, and by morning, he was able to recreate the step. However, Saroj Khan asked him not to go to the dance and instead put his arms out. SRK was quoted as saying:

"I couldn’t do that, and I felt very ashamed. All night I (practised) the dance step. In the morning, I came (to the set) and the choreographer, I remember it was Saroj ji, I said, ‘Ma’am, ready?’ She said, ‘Yeah, so you can’t do that (step) so just stand there and put your arms out.’ I said, ‘But Ma’am, I can do it.’ She said, ‘No, no, we don’t need it, it doesn’t look nice on you.’ She didn’t do the dip so I just put my arms out."

Further, King Khan said that when he went to another set, the dance steps would get difficult and then he would ask them if he could just put his arms out. He added that he was putting his arms out so often that he thought of doing it more intensely. While recreating his iconic pose, SRK mentioned:

"Again I went to another set and again it was a little difficult, I turned to the choreographer and said, ‘Can we cut it? Can I just put my arms out?’ And it kept getting arms out and I think because I was putting my arms out so much, I had to do it more intensely. Then I made it scientifically. I am only fooling you all. There is nothing, it is just arms out."

Shah Rukh Khan reveals why he prefers working with females

Meanwhile, King Khan also shared why he prefers working with females more. He revealed that female actors, directors, and producers are more sensitive and nuanced than men. They also make a film look nicer. Moreover, he heaped praises on Farah Khan saying that she used to feed them well. In his words:

"I do find that having worked a lot with women, as actors, directors and producers, I do find them more sensitive and nuanced. Men compartmentalise their feelings. Women are more overarching. They also, to be honest, make the films look nicer. I don't want it to sound inappropriate, they do smell better. They have shampooed, they laugh more and Farah Khan especially, she used to feed us very well, and she has got a great sense of humour."

When Kal Ho Naa Ho director revealed SRK's habit of critiquing his films

Earlierthe Kal Ho Naa Ho director, Nikkhil Advani, shared an anecdote about King Khan's career and talked about his habit of humorously criticising the film he worked on while simultaneously having another project in his kitty. In an interview with Galatta Plus, the filmmaker recalled that while Kal Ho Naa Ho was being made, Shah Rukh called the movie 'rubbish.'

Meanwhile, SRK showered praise on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas, describing it as 'fantastic'. Nikkhil observed that the actor would frequently downplay one project in favour of another he was filming at the same time and that this behaviour was characteristic of him. Nikkhil was quoted as saying:

"When we were doing Mohabbatein, or was it Kuch Kuch Hota Hai… I think Mohabbatein, Shah Rukh was shooting for Hey Ram. And Shah Rukh has a habit of coming for a meeting where he says that the film he is making with you is rubbish, you should be seeing the other film. In Kal Ho Naa Ho, he said Devdas is fantastic, Kal Ho Naa Ho is rubbish. He has that habit."

Professionally, SRK took some time off after the release of Dunki. However, as per recent reports, he is all set to start shooting his upcoming film, King, with his darling daughter, Suhana Khan.
