Soha Ali Khan Recalls Sleeping 'Under Macchardani' When There Was No Electricity At Pataudi Palace

Soha Ali Khan is the princess of Pataudi Palace but her aura gives grounded vibes. She is often seen visiting her amma, Sharmila Tagore at the Pataudi Palace and her daughter, Inaaya Naumi Kemmu accompanies her. It seems that Soha is trying her best to give her daughter a feel of her childhood and keep her in touch with her roots. Soha, herself, admits that she juggles between two worlds, an ancient one and a modern one. This time, Soha recalled her childhood at the Pataudi Palace and what all she and her daughter, Inaaya do when they visit their ancestral home.

In March 2021, Soha Ali Khan had given glimpses on her IG handle of her daughter, Inaaya Naumi Kemmu’s walk in the field day at her ancestral Pataudi Palace. In the pictures, we could see little Inaaya having a gala time, running around in the fields, playing with their late pooch, Masti. Soha had captioned the first picture as "Having a field day!" In the second picture, we could see Inaaya feeding little, white birds with her hands. Soha had also posted a picture of Inaaya looking at a tree's giant roots in wonderment and had written, "Back to my roots" atop it.

In a conversation with The Indian Express, Soha Ali Khan recalled her childhood memories of her ancestral home, Pataudi Palace and shared that it has an ‘old world charm’. She also mentioned that the Palace makes her feel close to her late father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Recalling sleeping under a macchardani when there was no electricity at the Pataudi Palace, Soha shared:

“I somehow feel closer to my father when I am there. I go to his grave and spend time with him. It is his home. So, there is that connection as well. So many memories growing up. I remember the time when there was no electricity and we had visited as children. We used to sleep outside, under macchardani (mosquito net). Now we have AC, but back then, there was no AC and no mobile phones. So, it was a complete cut off.”

Soha also talked about how her four-year-old daughter, Inaaya Naumi Kemmu spends time at the Pataudi Palace, trying her hands at organic farming. She revealed:

“We play cricket, do organic farming. Inaaya also goes there and plants something. Picks up potatoes, carrots and all. We make a salad out of cucumbers, carrots, which she herself has grown and harvested. There are peacocks and adopted dogs, sometimes snakes… so, it is like being amidst nature.”
