Sobhita Dhulipala's Story: Rejected For Being Dark, Miss India Earth, Wedding With Naga Chaitanya

Sobhita Dhulipala introduced herself to Bollywood back in 2016 in Anurag Kashyap's film, Raman Raghav. Despite the exceptional lead actors, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vicky Kaushal, Sobhita succeeded in leaving her mark on the big screen. Despite not being trained as an actress, the way Sobhita performed simply blew the viewers' minds. In the following years, she made her acting debut in Telugu cinema with the film, Goodachari (2018) and entered into Malayalam cinema with Moothon (2019).

However, it's fair to say that Sobhita Dhulipala's work in the web series, Made in Heaven brought her much-awaited success and fame. After her impressive work in Made in Heaven, Sobhita Dhulipala appeared in a series of OTT shows, including Bard of Blood and The Night Manager. She also appeared and worked with many renowned Indian movie stars in the films, The Body, Ghost Stories, Kurup, Major, Ponniyin Selvan: I, Ponniyin Selvan: II, and Monkey Man.

Sobhita Dhulipala was born into a family of a Merchant Navy officer and a school teacher

Talking about Sobhita Dhulipala's family background, she was born on May 31, 1992, into a Telugu Brahmin family. While her father, Venugopal Rao worked as an engineer in the Merchant Navy, Sobhita's mother, Santha Kamakshi was a primary school teacher by profession. The stunning actress completed her schooling at Visakha Valley School in Visakhapatnam. After completing her schooling, Sobhita went to Mumbai to pursue a graduation degree at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics.

Sobhita Dhulipala came to Mumbai with a lot of hope and enthusiasm to make her career, but she suffered a lot of racism. From being trolled for her floral-embroidered outfits to long oiled hair and being teased about her dark skintone, Sobhita lost all her confidence. Once, in an old interview with PTI, the actress labelled her college life as 'brutal' because of the racism she suffered at Mumbai's H.R. College of Commerce and Economics.

Further, in the same interview with PTI, Sobhita Dhulipala talked about how she became so insecure that she participated in the Miss India beauty pageant. While most of the students mocked her for participating in a beauty pageant despite being dark, Sobhita cleared the first round and shocked everyone. After clearing the first round, she started getting a lot of attention in college and loved it. However, to everyone's surprise, she went on to win the prestigious Miss India Earth 2013 beauty pageant.

Sobhita Dhulipala faced more than 1000 rejections for being dark

Despite winning the Femina Miss India Earth 2013, Sobhita Dhulipala struggled to get an opportunity in the film industry. Once, in an old interview, she talked about being rejected more than 1000 times for one single reason, which was her skin colour.

The actress admitted that producers and casting directors used to tell her that she was not 'gori' and pretty enough. Sobhita Dhulipala also added that it was a massive letdown for her, but she kept trying. Luckily, she came in contact with Anurag Kashyap, who allowed her to showcase her acting skills in Raman Raghav, and the rest is history.

Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya's engagement: From being tagged as a 'home breaker' to being welcomed in the Akkineni clan

Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya got engaged on August 8, 2024, in a private ceremony. It was Naga's father and iconic actor, Nagarjuna, who confirmed it with a lovely welcoming message for his bahu. Sobhita and Chaitanya looked absolutely out of this world at their engagement ceremony. While she wore a pink-hued saree and gold jewellery, Chaitanya opted for a white kurta and a doshala. The pictures were all over the internet within seconds, and the couple received a lot of love from their fans. People are now anxiously waiting for Sobhita and Chaitanya's wedding. 

For the uninitiated, Naga Chaitanya announced his divorce from ex-wife and renowned actress, Samantha Ruth Prabhu back in 2021. After that, reports of Chaitanya dating Sobhita Dhulipala started making noise in the media corridors. Many netizens who felt bad for Samantha tagged Sobhita as a 'home breaker' and abused her for being in a relationship with Naga. The actress kept her cool, and with time, things calmed down.

However, in May 2024, reports of Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya's dating rumours were all over the place after a picture of the couple was posted on Reddit. Speculations had it that Sobhita and Chaitanya are taking things slowly and don't want to make their relationship official as of then. However, after almost three months, Sobhita and Naga's engagement pictures confirmed all the previous speculations.
