In the same conversation, Sagarika pointed to the lives of all the immigrant mothers and parents. She mentioned that a mother's style of nurturing their kids is highly scrutinised in foreign countries. Moreover, the kind of practices which are common in India, are highly objectified outside. Thus, revealing a recent case of Ariha Shah who was snatched from her mother, Dhara, Sagarika added:

"I believe it is important for people to know this story and to see how immigrant mothers/parents are treated even today, as is evident from the tragic story in Germany. I’ve been in touch with Ariha Shah’s mother Dhara, whose little girl has been taken away. I implore you all to stand by her, just as I do. My support is unconditional, from one mother to another."

Finally, concluding the conversation, Sagarika thanked Rani, who projected the latter's journey of three years of finally getting custody of her kids. Sagarika mentioned how Rani gave justice to her struggle. She concluded:

“I want to thank Rani Mukerji for channeling the grief and struggles that I went through to win back my children. She is a mother herself and I thank her for bringing a mother’s painful journey on screen with so much dignity that I broke down while seeing her in the trailer.”

Sagarika Bhattacharya's struggle to get custody of her kids

It was in 2009, when Sagarika Bhattacharya moved to Norway with her first child, a son, Abhigyan to her geophysicist husband, Anurup Bhattacharya who was residing over there. In 2010, the couple embraced parenthood for the second time with the arrival of their daughter. And just like every Indian mommy, Sagarika used to follow the common practices of feeding her kids with her hands or putting kajal bindis on the child's face. However, since the Child Welfare Service in Norway is quite strict, they took her kids into custody and planned to keep them there until they turned 18. The government has also declared Sagarika ‘mentally unfit’ to raise two children. And finally, after approaching several courts, in January 2013, she got custody of her children.

Ashima Chibbar's directorial and Rani Mukerjee starter, Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, will hit the theatres on March 17, 2023.
