Rupali Ganguly Reveals Her Father Sold Their House, Calls Her Husband A 'Hero' For Supporting Her

Rupali Ganguly is one of the highest-paid actresses in the television industry. She has won millions of fans with the Hindi TV show, Anupamaa. The show has marked Rupali's comeback to the small screens after almost seven years since she had taken a sabbatical from acting and was living a life of a happy homemaker. However, time and again, Rupali has credited her darling husband, Ashwin K Verma, for motivating her and supporting her to take on this new role while he would take care of their little munchkin, Rudransh at home.

For the unversed, the Sarabhai vs Sarabhai actress is the daughter of renowned director, Anil Ganguly. Although now as we know, acting and passion for films were in her roots, Rupali was also fortunate enough to get featured in a few of his father's directorial like Saaheb (1985), Mera Yaar Mera Dushman (1987), and Angaara (1997). In a recent conversation with Pinkvilla, Rupali Ganguly recalled the devastating time when her filmmaker father, Anil Ganguly had to sell their house. Revealing the reason behind it, Rupali said that after a film of her father with the iconic actor, Dharmendra had got delayed for four years, it resulted in a massive loss for her family. Elaborating about the filmmaking craze and passion of her father, Rupali said:

"It was like a middle-class house completely because my father at that time it was more about the passion of making films rather than money. People used to sell their houses to make movies. When a movie flops, you sell the house, like how it happened with us. Dad had made a film with Dharmendra. When it took three to four years to complete because papa's USP was making the films fast. Saaheb was made in 40 days. But this Dharmendra film that got delayed for four years, resulted in a massive loss for the family. But it's okay, whatever goes up has to come down too."

Further in the interview, Rupali praised her father's upbringing and shared how he had given her all the freedom that she had needed to excel in life. The loving daughter labelled her father, Anil Ganguly as an 'absolute hero' and said now her husband, Ashwin K Verma has taken over that role. She can be quoted as saying:

"My father, I wouldn't call him a feminist, but he brought me up without the gender bias. He gave me all the proper values but he never barred me from doing things because I was a girl. I was always given a choice to do whatever I wanted to. He always gave me choices. My father was so broadminded and he was my absolute hero and now my husband has taken over that role."

In the same interview, when Rupali was asked if her husband had taken a break from his work so that she could sign the show, Anupamaa, Rupali disclosed that she would not even make half the salary her husband would make, but despite knowing this, he had shown support and respect towards her work. She further talked about the section of the unfortunate woman in the country who do not get permission from their family. She stated:

"I probably won't make half the salary he would make, but for a man to do that for his wife so I get my due as an actor is a very big deal. I wish if we had more men like that then women could achieve anything they want but there are so many unfortunate women who stay and hold back because they do not have family support Like Anupamaa so there are so many women who have to struggle for everything."
