It's been almost three weeks since the world saw the interview, which had tumbled the whole aura of Britain's Royal Palace upside down. People just can't stop talking about the alleged shocking revelations made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the interview. People are expressing their unsolicited opinions, some are lauding Meghan Markle for her brave step, while others are denying her allegations and calling her a liar. And going by the trends on social media, it seems the debate is going to go on for a long time.

In the 'there's no subjects that's off limits' interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle had revealed that they had gotten secretly married three days before the grand Windsor Castle ceremony. For the uninitiated, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's grand, traditional English wedding had a viewership of almost 30 Million across the globe.

A spokesperson for the Duchess and Duke of Sussex told The Daily Beast on March 22, 2021, that “the couple exchanged personal vows a few days before their official/legal wedding on May 19, 2018.” However, the outlet later clarified that the early exchange of vows didn’t make their marriage official. Also, Meghan never said (in the interview with Oprah) she and Harry were 'legally' married before they officially tied the knot at Windsor Castle in England on May 19, 2018.

In Meghan's words “You know, three days before our wedding, we got married. No one knows that. The vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our backyard with the Archbishop of Canterbury." Meghan had further revealed that she and Harry had called the Archbishop, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, to help them marry. Harry had chipped in “Just the three of us.”

Now, Stephen Borton, who helped draft the license that allowed Meghan and Harry to legally marry, has explained what could’ve possibly caused the secret wedding misunderstanding. He told The Sun, “The Special Licence I helped draw up enabled them to marry at St George’s Chapel in Windsor and what happened there on 19 May 2018 and was seen by millions around the world was the official wedding as recognised by the Church of England and the law."

Stephen Borton further added why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's alleged secret wedding could not be considered legal. He explained, “What I suspect they did was exchange some simple vows they had perhaps written themselves, and which is fashionable, and said that in front of the Archbishop — or, and more likely, it was a simple rehearsal,” he continued, and added, “You cannot be married with just three people. It’s not a valid ceremony.”

During the 'explosive' interview, When Oprah had asked Meghan, "How do you feel about the Palace hearing you speak your truth today?", in regards to her relationship with the royal family, she had said, "I don't know how they could expect that after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us. And if that comes with the risk of losing things, I mean -- there's a lot that has been lost already."
