Parineeti Chopra On Gaining 16Kg For Amar Singh Chamkila: 'How Many Actresses Are Ready To Do That?'

Parineeti Chopra recently received widespread acclaim for her role in Imtiaz Ali’s film, Amar Singh Chamkila as the titular character’s wife ‘Amarjot Kaur’. After the film was released on the streaming platform, Netflix, the actress went on to reveal all the hard yards she did to portray her character in the biopic. Parineeti Chopra says only some actresses would take the risk of putting on weight for a role

Recently, during a conversation with India Today, the actress emphasised once again that she had to put on 16 kg for the role. Moreover, she further questioned if actresses in contemporary times are ready to go to such lengths for a role. Parineeti added that she only knew of a handful of actresses, who would have shown the same dedication as she did. In her words:

“I had to put on 16 kg for this film. How many actresses are really ready to do that today? I only know a couple, only a couple of actresses who have done that - really dedicated, committed actresses.”

Parineeti Chopra shares she did unconventional things for Amar Singh Chamkila

Parineeti further mentioned that she and her co-star, Diljit Dosanjh, who played the titular character in Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila, did some of the most unconventional things. Starting from singing live on sets to working on a single project for two years, Parineeti said she had given it all. Now, she wants to take more risks in her career as she believes audiences appreciate unique things. In her words:

“Just for two years, I didn't do any other work. Singing live on the sets - who takes that risk to sing live on a set and let that sound be used in a film? Nobody is confident enough to do it. They want to do it in a studio. So, I think there are many things that Diljit and I both did in this film under the leadership of Imtiaz sir, which are not usually done. That motivates me to take more risks because we believe in the audience, and they accept us when we do these kinds of things.”
