#9. Veer-Zaara

This 2004 romantic drama starring Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta was directed by Yash Chopra, and was one of the most highly anticipated films before its release. It was the unfortunate romance of star-crossed lovers, Indian Air Force officer Veer Pratap Singh and Pakistani Zaara Hayat Khan. They meet in India and fall in love, only to be separated by Zaara's family who did not approve of their relationship. He is then left to die in the Pakistani jail, and after 22 years Pakistani lawyer Saamiya Siddiqui helps him to come out of jail. It is then that finally the two lovers are re-united. The music of the film was truly soul-touching with old compositions by the late Madan Mohan and lyrics of Javed Akhtar.
