Milind Soman's Wife, Ankita Konwar On Battling Depression: Reveals How She Still Struggles With It

Depression is a condition that can happen to anybody and take a toll on their mind, body, and soul. However, it's not easy to identify people who are suffering from depression. Even the people with smiling faces might also be undergoing a battle with depression inside. And, one such happy soul is Milind Soman's wife, Ankita Konwar, who has time and again talked about it.

For the unversed, it was in 2018 when Ankita Konwar and Milind Soman had exchanged wedding vows in a traditional Maharashtrian marriage ceremony. This was followed by a barefoot wedding at Santiago de Compostela, Spain. For the Maharashtrian ceremony, Milind and Ankita had twinned in white and golden coloured ensembles. And, for the white ceremony too, Milind and Ankita had picked colour-coordinated outfits.

A few moments back, Ankita Konwar took to her Instagram handle and opened up about her battle with depression and anxiety. Sharing her experience of going through it all, she revealed she still faces tiny episodes of dark patches. She shared a smiling picture of herself and wrote the caption as:

"A picture from recent past, a day when I had a storm in my head but my face reflected calmness with a smile. Yes, I still have a few days where everything isn’t “fine”. Not everyone who looks “fine” is actually fine. Things can seem overwhelming and meaningless at the same time. But I don’t get scared like I used to. After living a long period of anxiety and depression and getting out of it with all the courage I had in me, I still face tiny episodes of dark patches."

"Way milder, way shorter and way better than the “all consuming” days I actually lived through. But now, I have gotten stronger, become more positive and I manage to see the bright light through the dark patches. I don’t let it consume me, I cry when I have to, I don’t hold onto my thoughts like I used to. I let them come and go as they please. It requires a lot of practice but I’m getting better at it. I remember reading somewhere that ‘some of us require a little more effort to survive in this world than the rest’ and I have finally come to accept that fact. Of course the events and experiences of our lives play a huge role in it. But we must get all the help we can to navigate our way through it. It’s not easy and no it doesn’t get easier, you just get better and stronger.”

Ankita also mentioned a few things that could help, which include physical and mental exercise, journaling, cutting down on caffeine, reducing alcohol intake, avoiding substance abuse and even engaging with friends and family. She concluded by stressing the importance of good mental health during festivities and wrote:

"Holiday seasons can be quite stressful, can bring back all kinds of memories. So many things can trigger you but keep at it. Look at what you have achieved inspite of all the obstacles. If you’re having one of those dark days, I’m just here to remind you that your resilience is far stronger than the storm inside your head. Love to all of you."

In an interview with Humans Of Bombay, Milind Soman’s wife had talked about how she had fallen in love with Milind when she was grieving the loss of her boyfriend. Talking about the same, Ankita had said:

“I decided to move out of the country and started working with Air Asia, as a cabin crew in Malaysia. It was at that time that my then-boyfriend suddenly passed away. It was heartbreaking–it felt like there was no coming back. A couple of months later, I got posted in Chennai. I was staying in a hotel with my colleagues. Once, in the lobby, I saw a tall, rugged man. It was Milind Soman! I was a big fan! So I went to say hello, but he was busy. A few days later, I saw him again at the hotel’s nightclub.”

Further talking about their first meeting, Ankita had said that Milind had convinced her that he is the one but she had taken her own sweet time to fall in love. She had also said:

“But I still couldn’t bring myself to get fully involved. Until one day, I told him that because of my past, with my boyfriend, there was a part of me that couldn’t let go. To which he said, ‘When I fell in love with you, I fell in love with all of you. Even the part that carries the burden of your past. So don’t be afraid, we’re in this together.’ That’s when I knew–this was the man for me!”
