Mahesh Bhatt On Falling In Love With Soni Razdan, Claims He Resisted Her From Coming Into His Life

Mahesh Bhatt has been one such filmmaker known for his bold and unfiltered opinions about various aspects in life. He doesn’t fret away from calling a spade a spade. Be it the decisions he took in his personal life to choices of films he made or even the recent happenings in the world around him, Mahesh’s perspectives have been on-point and sharp. And recently, he reminisced about his own love story with wife, Soni Razdan.

Mahesh Bhatt claims he resisted Soni Razdan from entering into his life

During a candid confessional interaction with Bollywood Bubble, Mahesh Bhatt spoke about his love story with wife, Soni Razdan. The filmmaker, who has been credited to have brought to life some of the most iconic sagas of love on the celluloid, remarked how he never really wanted Soni to enter his life and even resisted it. However, Mahesh added that his spouse brought in the much-needed sanity in his life and instead absorbed all his insanity. Mahesh expressed:

“Soni happened to me and I resisted but I was drawn into this relationship and helplessly drawn. She was the sanest person who came into my life. She could contain and absorb my insanity.”

Mahesh remarks how an iconic dialogue from his film, Raaz was inspired from his own love story

Continuing with his line of thought, Mahesh Bhatt made an interesting comment and remarked how his love story left an inspiration for his film, Raaz. Explaining more, the filmmaker revealed that the movie’s iconic dialogue, “Mere itne kareeb mat aao, main tumhe barbaad kar dungi. Main barbaad hona chahta hu” was something that he said in-person to Soni Razdan, since he felt unworthy of a person like her. Narrating how it took place at the starting of their relationship, Mahesh Bhatt said:

“She was lovely. whenever you fall in love you always feel you’re unworthy of the person whom you’re in love with so I asked how do I become worthy of her so I wore shoes and I felt so uncomfortable and she looked at me and that made me more even more uncomfortable and I remember we were sitting down in a hotel in Worli and I told her I said don’t come very close to me I’ll destroy you. that’s a dialogue we use in Raaz and she said I want to be destroyed and that was the rest of history. But I told her I would never leave her.”

Soni Razdan once revealed how she crossed paths with Mahesh Bhatt

Back in 2023, Soni Razdan narrated a beautiful anecdote about how she met Mahesh Bhatt through a special IG post on their anniversary. Apart from dropping a candid snapshot of themselves, Soni penned a note, wherein she remembered meeting Mahesh for the first time through a common friend of theirs. However, without divulging any more details, she adorably referred to it as a long story and wished her husband on the special day. In her words:

“The story of us: One day out of the blue I got a call from a friend, who wanted me to meet a man called Mahesh Bhatt… acha chodo ab… bahut lambi kahani hai (let's not get into it, a long story it is). Phir kabhi (let's save it for some other time). Main point yeh hai ki (the point is) we met, fell in love at some point and here we are many moons later. Happy anniversary baby. We really have come a long way."

When Soni Razdan expressed feeling guilty upon marrying Mahesh Bhatt

Previously, in a conversation with India Today, Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter, Pooja Bhatt had revealed an unheard anecdote about her step-mother, Soni Razdan. Pooja mentioned how Soni, once after her marriage to Mahesh, confessed to the former about feeling guilty. When Pooja further asked her the reason behind such a remark, Soni had apparently shared how she felt that she broke a marriage to be in someone else’s life.
