Johny Lever is undoubtedly the ‘one’ amongst several comedians in Bollywood, whose name is enough to tickle the funny bones of the audience. The actor-comedian stepped into the world of glamour in the 1980s, and he still continues to win the hearts of audiences with his humour. He has been a part of some of the popular films in Bollywood, including Baazigar, Raja Hindustani, Dulhe Raja, Baadshah, Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiyaa, Khatta Meetha, Golmaal, De Dana Dan, and many more. Despite having an illustrious career, Johny had gone through some dark times.

Johny Lever discloses that he was once about to take his life 

In a conversation with YouTuber, Ranveer Allahbadia on his show, TRS, Johny Lever divulged details about his professional life. The comedian has seldom spoken about his life in the public domain, but his recent conversation with the YouTuber has revealed the darkest phase of his life. Johnny revealed that his childhood was the darkest phase of his life. He mentioned that when he used to earn a few bucks then only they could have food. He said:

“Bachpan mein mushkil phase tha. Bachpan mein mujhe family ko dekhn padta tha toh main bohot struggle karta tha. Main kuch kaam karoon toh ghar mein khaana banta tha. Daddy peeke unko pata hi nahi tha kya karte the, wo apne doston ke saath nikal jaate the, kaam pe bhi nahi jaate the, dadagiri karte the. Humlogo ko darr lagta tha ki mera baap zinda aayenge ki nahi aayenge.”

Further, in the same conversation, Johny Lever revealed when he was 13 years old, he was about to commit suicide. He was so fed up with his father that he decided to take his life by lying on the railway tracks. The actor further disclosed that while the train was approaching him, the faces of his three sisters flashed before his eyes, and he decided otherwise. Johny said:

“13 saal ki umar mein main toh rail ki patri par jaan dene gaya tha. Main fed up ho gaya tha mere baap se. Main patri pe gaya, gaadi aa rahi saamne se, achanak meri teen behne mere saamne dikhai di ‘hamara kya hoga’ aur ye gaadi gayi.”

Johny Lever shares his experience of working with SRK

During his interaction with Ranveer, the comedian also talked about his time working with some of the acclaimed actors in Bollywood. The host asked Johny if he knew Shah Rukh Khan would become such a superstar in contemporary times. To this, the comedian revealed that he has never seen someone as hard-working as SRK. He said:

“Hum logon ne Baazigar mein saath mein kaam kiya 1991 mein. Shooting mein bhi log unse zyada mujhe jaante the. Main star tha uss time pe, aur Shah Rukh Khan upcoming the. Uss aadmi jaisa mehnati nahi dekha maine, bohot mehnati.”

Johny Lever further said that there are variations in hard work, and getting out of someone’s comfort zone is what makes all the difference. He said that doing something you are good at is very easy, however, working on something you are not good at is pretty difficult. Johny added that SRK did not know how to fight or dance, but he worked on himself and has become the superstar he is now. Johny Lever said:

“Mehnat mehnat mein farq, jo aapko aata hai wo toh aap karenge hi, jo aapko nahi aata wo karna bohot mushkil hai. Shah Rukh Khan fight mein bhi kamzor the, dance mein bhi kamzor the. Salman Khan-Shah Rukh Khan, hum kar rahe Karan Arjun, Salman ka take ho jata tha, aur inka retake hota tha. Hotel mein jaake practice kar rahe hai, phir Salman Khan phirki leta tha, mazak urata tha Shah Rukh Khan ka. Wo aadmi kar ke apne aap ko banaya. Dance mein bhi badhiya ban gaye, fight mein bhi badhiya ban gaye.”
