10 DIY Face Masks To Keep Your Skin Healthy During Quarantine

Don't we all love to pamper ourselves? How pleasing it is to get a clean-up or facial done, while we relax our mind and body. And the post glow is to die for! Right? But isn’t it a far-fetched dream these days to step out and go to our favourite salon, because of course Coronavirus has made sure that we go back to the times when salons were not the only way to treat your skin. It feels like life has gone a few years back and we are all by ourselves! While it is impossible to step out, our skin has to face the brunt of our mental health and the stress we all are dealing with these days.

If we rewind back in time, we will know that people used to rely more on natural things than ones made with chemicals. Sometimes it is good to step into your kitchen, if not for food, then at least for your skin, because your kitchen can definitely help your skin. Not just your stomach, but your skin too, will thank your kitchen to have some of the greatest food items. We all know about sheet masks and clay masks, now let’s try some DIY masks because natural things will bring a natural glow to our dull and damaged faces. Understand your skin type and skin issue and choose your face mask accordingly. Here are 10 DIY face masks to keep your skin healthy during the quarantine.

#1. Banana Mask

Banana is great for skin as it has vitamin A to fade away the dark spots and blemishes, vitamin B to reduce dryness, vitamin E to deal with wrinkles, and potassium to hydrate and moisturise. Mash a medium-sized banana into a paste, and gently apply it on your face and neck. Allow it to sit on your face for 10 to 20 minutes, and then rinse it off with cold water.

Milk treats acne, sunburn, lightens skin tone and naturally cleanses the skin. Take 1/4th cup of powdered milk and mix it with enough water to form a thick paste. Coat your face with the mixture, and let it dry completely. Rinse with warm water and your skin will feel fresh and rejuvenated.

#3. Yoghurt Mask

If you wish to cleanse your skin and tighten the pores, apply some plain yoghurt on your face and leave it for 20 minutes before you wash your face. If you want to revitalize your skin, mix 1 teaspoon plain yoghurt with juice extracted from 1/4th slice of orange with some of its pulp and 1 teaspoon aloe vera. Let it sit on your face for at least five minutes before rinsing it.

Lemon has hydroxyl acid, which helps in removing dead skin cells and clear up blackheads, acne, and discoloration. Mix the juice from one lemon with 1/4th cup of olive oil; if you do not have olive oil, then you can use sweet almond oil as well. Or you can mix the juice of 1/2th lemon with 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply the mixture on your face and leave it for 15 minutes. Wash it off with warm water.

#5. Cocoa-Avocado Mask

Cocoa has antioxidant properties to it, avocado helps in hydrating, and honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a great mix for the skin. Mash one-quarter of an avocado in a bowl, add one tablespoon of cocoa powder and one tablespoon of honey. Mix it well and apply the mask on clean and dry face. Let it sit for 10 minutes, and then wash it off with warm water.  

#6. Papaya Mask

If you have hyperpigmentation, sun spots and uneven skin tone, then this mask is for you. Blend two tablespoons of honey with half-cup of mashed papaya. Apply the mixture over your face for 15-20 minutes. Wash it off and moisturise as usual.

#7. Honey-Orange Mask

This mask will brighten up your dull skin. Take three tablespoons of orange juice and a quarter cup of honey. Mix the ingredients well, rub it lightly over your face and then leave it for 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and moisturise.

#8. Turmeric Mask

Turmeric is a great way to deal with acne as it combats with microbial growth, sebum production and inflammation which all leads to acne. It also helps with discolourations or hyper-pigmentation, if used for a longer time period. Mix three tablespoons of turmeric powder with water and two tablespoons of fresh lemon juice to create a thick paste. Apply the paste over your face and leave it for 5 minutes.

#9. Oatmeal Mask

Oatmeal has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help in removing the dead skin cells and retreat dry skin. Honey has antibacterial properties, thus making for a great face mask. Take one tablespoon oatmeal, one teaspoon raw honey and 1/2 teaspoon water and mix the ingredients in a bowl. Apply a thin layer over your clean face, and leave it for 10 minutes before you wash it off.

#10. Egg-Aloe Mask

Egg whites and aloe helps in absorbing excess oil without damaging your skin. If you are not allergic to egg, then this can help you prevent clogged pores. Aloe helps in soothing and hydrating the skin. Egg white and aloe mask can help calm your skin if it is overproducing oil. Mix one egg white with two tablespoons fresh aloe or a pinch of aloe vera gel, and apply it over your face. Leave it for 10 minutes, and then rinse it off.
