Anurag Kashyap's Daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap Says She Slipped Into Depression After Contracting COVID

Anurag Kashyap has a daughter from his first wife (Aarti Bajaj), Aaliyah Kashyap, who is studying in New York. For the uninitiated, Anurag and Aarti had tied the knot in 2003, but their relationship had fallen apart after four years of marital bliss. They had separated in 2007 and were granted a divorce in 2009. Anurag had never let their separation affect his relationship with his daughter, Aaliyah. The star daughter is very popular on social media.

Earlier, Aaliyah was trolled brutally for posting a 'too revealing' picture on her IG handle. The star daughter had posted a video on her YouTube channel, expressing her feelings about the same. Aaliyah had said, "People were telling me that I should be ashamed of being Indian and posting stuff like that. People were sending me rape threats, calling me a prostitute, DMing me and asking me what my 'rate' was, sending me death threats, s**tting on my family. That whole incident of the picture got me a lot."

Recently, Aaliyah Kashyap talked about the challenges she faced while battling with mental health problems. Talking about the time when she tested positive for COVID-19 and slipped into a state of depression, Aaliyah mentioned that her situation had become so severe that she was hospitalised, and her concerned parents had flown down to the US to spend some time with her. She then further revealed that her parents stayed in the US with her till early January, and she felt good again.

Aaliyah is very active on social media and puts forward her opinions on matters that need attention fearlessly. Shaming the trollers who trolled her for posting a revealing picture, Aaliyah had penned a long note. She had written, "The past few weeks have been really hard on my mental health. Ever since I posted a photo of me in lingerie, I have been getting the most vile, degrading and disgusting comments. I have never felt more frightened than I have in the past few weeks to the point where I considered deleting my Instagram. I have tried to ignore the harassment and shrug it off, but the truth is we need to speak about it because these kinds of comments contribute to the rape culture that affects all women in India (and the rest of the world) in one way or the other."

Further, speaking about the irony that we hold candle marches for women after the assault but won't protect them while they're alive, Aaliyah had written, "We seem to be a country that will hold candle marches for women after she's been sexually assaulted but won't protect a woman while she's alive. And the truth is women in India grow up being sexualised their whole lives. I have grown up with these kinds of comments to the point where it is culminated in me being sexually assaulted a minor by a middle-aged man. The double standard is that many of the people who have harassed many other women and me are hypocrites. They love to pretend that they're on moral high ground, but in reality, they're the ones promoting the rape culture that exists."

Aaliyah had then explained how any woman's posts or anything she does could never be an invitation for a sexual assault. She had further written, "They're the same men that are fine with following me and consuming the content I post, yet to harass me. If you truly disagree with what I post, then you're free to unfollow me. Nothing I do or post is an invitation for sexual assault. Nothing any woman does ever can be. So instead of policing women how to dress or how to act, we should unteach the men the predatory behaviour that has been so normalised in our society. This is my life, my body and I choose what to do with it." Aaliyah had then shared the snapshots of the threats she had received on her pictures.
