While allergic reactions are a huge indicator that the immune system is displeased with you using a certain product, irritant reactions are limited to the skin surface. So, look closely and find out which beauty product is the culprit. Is it the fragrance-rich deceiving moisturiser or the anti-ageing cream you have recently begun using.

#1. Sulphates

It’s time you check the ingredients of your shampoos and body washes. We say this because sodium lauryl sulphate, which is commonly used in these two products, may be the reason behind the redness and dryness on your sensitive skin. If you think these products are not suiting you, you should find some organic alternatives or consult a good dermatologist so that he can suggest you a better option.

#3. Salicylic acid and glycolic acid

Salicylic acid and glycolic acids are often added to skin care products that help control acne. They get into the pores and extract oil from the follicles, unclog them and reduce acne occurrence. However, some people do not realise that they might be allergic to these acids. Look out for skin irritation, dryness, redness or a burning sensation if you are using a product that has either of them.

#4. Aluminium

One of the most commonly found ingredient in deodorants and anti-perspirants, aluminum does its best in reducing sweating. But, if every time you notice that your armpits are turning red the moment you use a roll-on or a deodorant, you might be allergic to aluminum. The safest and skin-friendly choice will be buying aluminum-free products or ones that have low levels of aluminum in it. Make sure you do a patch test before you strart using a particular anti-perspirant.

#5. Retinol

Retinol fights sun damage, ageing and boosts collagen production like no other product, but it has a major drawback. It can be drying and can make your skin more sensitive to the sun and dryness during winters. It is best to discuss this with your dermatologist at length and probably use a product that had less concentration of retinol. Some dermatologists even ask people to apply retinol for 15 minutes and wash it off before heading off to sleep.

#6. Paraben

Do you know why parabens (like methyl propyl and benzyl hydroxybenzonate) are one of the most commonly used ingredients in skin care products? It is because these come cheap. However, if you’ve been recommended a product that contains paraben, do a patch test before switching to it on a daily basis. You can avoid a situation where it leads to red rashes. If they don’t suit you, you can always go for paraben-free products.
